it's been 6 months and 5 days since my last entry. i don't know what it was in the beginning, but since october or so, i've just been to scared to say it out loud (you know, out loud, figuratively on digital paper). now i'm back on the best coast and it's sunk in and become real life, so here goes:
my parents moved. to elk grove.
there's really not much i can say about my feelings on the matter besides it's weird. they've owned this little farm-y acre and a half of land for about four or five years now near consumnes, alternately renting out the house and using it as storage. around this time last year, they decided to sell 101 loring court and move down to the south side. and this past october it was all done (ahem to those of you who said that the curse of october was settled and in the past.)
i don't think i was too sad about it, although clearly it's been a touchy subject since i haven't really told anyone yet. but here i am. it's not so bad. smaller, which is better now that the population of family has shrunk, and it kind of feels like we're living at someone's vacation home. sort of un-lived in, furniture neatly placed and all the other crap disorganized. but there's a ton of running space for hercules now (whose thighs have turned into little iron fists of muscle) and a nice chunk of land that's asking to be full of flowers and vegetables. eric and i are planning on coming out in the spring to help plant (my mom's really pumped about having someone besides mikey to force manual labor upon). there's still a lot of household things that need to be fixed up--an automatic gate at the long front driveway, a new oven, general decorating--but my parents need some new hobbies anyway.
obviously it's not the same as the house i grew up in, but i've felt pretty disconnected from that house for a while now anyway.
in other news, if you haven't seen the facebook pictures yet, i got a dog. her name's jenny. she came from an animal shelter (i saved a small furry life! what have you done lately?) and looks like a fox/meerkat/tiny german shepherd/ferret/master splinter. while she's not into fetch, she's really into toes. she also like cheese, belly rubs, and the occasional submissive urination.
plus, my first new years in new york! there's been a lot of drama about what our activity will be, but i'm pretty pumped for my first legit new years kiss. is that weird i've gone this long without one?
anyway, my feet are freezing and i think i'm going to catch up on gossip girl and jersey shore. that show is amazing i don't care what anyone says.
